I did all the things I was supposed to: I went to college, got a degree, and got married.
At 30 years old, I thought I would be moving into a bigger house, in a nicer neighborhood, and upgrading our lives… NOT living with friends in their spare bedroom, applying for food stamps, and looking for any job that would hire.
Only two years before, we had been flourishing!
My husband owned a nice “starter home” when I met him, he had a few expensive toys in the garage and a steady $75k a year job.
I had a great job with great benefits AND I was a cocktail waitress on weekends, easily bringing home $500-1500 in cash tips every Saturday night.
We were doing really well! Living the 6-Figure Dream.
Until we weren’t.
I didn’t understand how it could change so fast?
Growing up, my dad was a compulsive gambler, so I had some beliefs about money and didn’t believe in credit card debt, but I did have student loan debt, because I was told that getting an education would get me a better paying job.
Well, that plan worked until it didn’t.
The 2008 financial crisis hit hard, and my husband and I ended up losing our home, filing bankruptcy and moving in with friends, until he was able to secure a job 1200 miles away for a $35k a year salary.
It felt like a slap in the face and so beneath us.
I was supposed to be moving into a BIGGER house, not a 1-bedroom apartment like a college student.
Luckily, I had a credit card that got us through some of those hard times, but with a $5000 limit, it was maxed out pretty quickly.
I found that $35k a year wasn’t getting us far and we were having way too much month at the end of the paycheck. I spent hours scouring the internet and reading all I could about money.
“I’M ALREADY DOING ALL OF THIS!” I would frustratingly cry.
It wasn’t until I invested the last bit of credit I had into a workshop, that I heard the words I needed to hear and started to make changes.
I was able to pay off $18k of remaining student loan and credit card debt and become completely debt free, triple my income and give more than I ever had before.
Since then, I’ve been able to work with dozens of money mentors and thousands of clients and take the best of what I was taught, and by using the same psychology that I helped my get my personal training clients results, I’ve applied to my money philosophy and strategy.
My hope for you, is that you can see yourself in me and my clients and know that you can have everything you want, but first you have to really know where you are and a plan to get there. I believe there is a practical side to money, a spiritual side to money, but also a psychological side to money and we have to address each area in order to make lasting and permanent change.
If you’ve found yourself here before, and said, “Not again.”
